Update on Imaging Services at Barts Health NHS Trust, February 2022
We would like to remind GP colleagues that patients must present to a Barts Health hospital within three weeks of their X-ray referral. Existing referrals between three weeks and six months old will continue to be honoured, however requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis by our clinical teams to ensure an X-ray is still required and clinically valid.
Pathology services update - request to review samples sending
Pathology services are seeing significant staff shortages due to Covid-19 which is impacting their services, whilst they will do their best to maintain all services they will be prioritising acute work and this may lead to prolonged turnaround times on some non-urgent tests.
BHRUT Endoscopy reports are no longer being sent by post
From today, Friday 17 December 2021 the endoscopy units for both Queen's Hospital (Clinical Diagnostic Unit) and King George Hospital (Juniper Endoscopy Unit) will be sending all endoscopy reports electronically to GP practices by email. The emails will go to the practice F code/discharge mailbox. This is the same inbox that clinic letters and discharge summaries are sent to.
Updated times for BHRUT’s Walk-In Chest X-Ray services across BHR
Walk-in service for Chest X-rays only. Please note that appointment would still be required for all other x-ray requests.
Barts Health Pathology
An issue entailing individual test results being sporadically absent from reports to GPs has been identified following Barts recent Pathology software upgrades
Mile End X-Ray remains closed until further notice
The patient referral forms currently reflect this change and give the alternative options for sites that patients can attend.
Patients to benefit from earlier diagnostic tests
Patients are set to benefit from easier access to earlier diagnostic tests with the rollout of 40 new community diagnostic centres, which include Mile End and Barking Community Hospital's

Pilot BHRUT Cardiology Service Referral Pathway
To assist with triaging and prioritisation of your patients, BHRUT Cardiology have requested that we make a change to the current pathway, asking GPs to arrange a 12 lead ECG prior to referring their patients to any cardiac clinic. This will start on Monday 25 May 20 and will be reviewed in July 2020.
BHR – Diagnostics and Cancer pathways – update from BHRUT
It has been agreed between the CCGs and BHRUT that for Diagnostic tests related to suspected Cancer pathways, patients will be offered 2 appointments at 2 different sites and then a CNS will follow up and offer a community site for the diagnostic
