Identification and Referral to Improve Safety (IRIS)

IRIS is a specialist domestic violence and abuse (DVA) training, support and referral programme for general practices.
IRIS Waltham Forest provides in-house DVA training for general practice teams and a named advocate to whom patients can be referred for support.
IRIS is open Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm
IRIS GP training
IRIS provide training and support to all practice staff. This training helps GPs identify patients affected by domestic violence or abuse. This is an innovative opportunity for all Waltham Forest GPs, practice nurses, healthcare assistants, practice managers, and administrative staff to receive free training. The training also contributes to level 3 safeguarding and CPD points.
IRIS Advocacy
One a GP is trained they can refer a patient is experiencing domestic abuse or sexual violence to IRIS Waltham Forest for support. Once a patient is referred, IRIS Waltham Forest will call the patient to complete a risk assessment and safety planning with them. IRIS will discuss a tailor-made support plan and explore options with regards to housing, legal options, welfare advice and can advocate for the patient with other agencies.
