Tower Hamlets GP Care Group is the new provider for the Healthy Child Programme

Waltham Forest council has appointed Tower Hamlets GP Care Group as the new provider for the Healthy Child Programme (HCP).

Following a competitive tender process, the current provider of the HCP – North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) – is stepping down from delivering this service. Tower Hamlets GP Care Group has been awarded the contract and will provide the service from 1 July 2022 for the next three years, with a possible two-year extension thereafter.

Tower Hamlets GP Care Group is a community interest company made up of 33 general practices, that work as a community organisation to deliver healthcare services to local residents.

They are successfully delivering the same programme in Tower Hamlets and we are confident in their experience and knowledge in delivering the same high-quality service in Waltham Forest. It is expected that the majority of NELFT staff who currently deliver this service will transfer to the new provider.

The transition should have little noticeable impact on the service and parents/carers should not notice anything different other than the name of the provider. A formal announcement will be sent to all families in the borough at the go-live phase in July.

This change comes alongside the recommissioning of providers for our Children and Family Centres and the Best Start service. From 1 July the provider of CFCs will continue to be Lloyds Park Children’s Charity and the provider of the Best Start Service will continue to be the national charity, HENRY.

This integrated partnership approach is designed to deliver family orientated, joined up services within 15-minute neighbourhoods, with single points of access; and address inequalities which will ensure that Waltham Forest’s children have the best start in life. We are committed to ensuring the HCP transition goes smoothly and continues to provide children and families with the excellent Healthy Child Programme service they are used to that supports their needs.
