NEL Emergency PPE Hub closing end of this month - new process for ordering PPE


Important update about the NEL Emergency PPE Hub 

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) in all settings, we set up an escalation PPE pathway in March 2020 for north east London which has been run out of Whipps Cross Hospital. 

This escalation service was a route for all services within the STP to use, should their business as usual (BAU) arrangements not have sufficient PPE stock. 

As we have moved through different stages of the pandemic, the escalation service has continued to run, supplying over 300 organisations.   

The situation is now very different to the start of the pandemic. Customers who have ordered from the Hub are registered on the national PPE portal and the programme is working well to meet current demands. 

Therefore, the NEL Emergency PPE Hub will be winding down and will cease as a route to obtain PPE on 31 July 2021. 

Last orders

 From 31 July 2021, the Survey Monkey PPE ordering form will no longer be available. The dedicated email address mailbox elhcp.ppe.emergencysupplyrequests@nhs.net  will no longer be monitored. 

Therefore, last orders for emergency PPE stock from the NEL hub need to be placed by 30 July 2021 (4pm deadline). 

How to order PPE in the future 

From 01 August 2021 onwards, the steps for ordering PPE are as follows: 

Step 1 – For all those registered for the DHSC emergency PPE Portal, this service will remain running, providing emergency PPE, this is centrally funded until March 2022 (at least). Here is a link to all the latest information and quantities available via the portal.

The customer service team are also available on 0800 876 6802 if you have questions about using the PPE Portal (7am-7pm, 7 days a week). 

Step 2- Ordering PPE via Supply Chain is on hold. However, you are able to order via your BAU suppliers i.e., wholesalers, healthcare providers etc. This is at your own cost. 

Step 3 – Reaching out to local organisations for emergency support, in the form of Mutual Aid. Or you contact the London Regional Team by email england.london-covid19supplies@nhs.net to arrange Mutual Aid from elsewhere in London. 

Step 4 – In the unlikely event that you are unable to obtain PPE via Steps 1-3, please contact the procurement team via email barts.procurement@nhs.net for further advice.
