We have received enquiries regarding which organisations can order vaccines from wholesalers under the current legal framework.
Schedule 22 of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 specifies which persons/organisations can be supplied medicines by wholesale. Please note all vaccines are regulated as medicines and therefore may be supplied if the organisation employs the persons specified in the link. The person specified (e.g. a doctor) will be required to receive the medications.
In addition to the legal framework, other usual commissioning/governance requirements will need to be met. Any organisation ordering vaccines with the intention to vaccinate eligible cohorts should ensure the required commissioning or contracting arrangements are in place.
Please note this information does not apply to covid vaccines as they are owned by the government.
