Easing of lockdown restriction to community/primary care Antenatal and Postnatal care

Easing of lockdown restriction to community/primary care Antenatal and Postnatal care for Women and their partners /support person(s)

Please find attached NHSE guidance about opening up healthcare services to include access to partners/support person of pregnant women to attend all antenatal and postnatal appointments in acute and community based settings including GP surgeries and children centres. We are now required to provide system plans on progress toward delivering this request back to NHSE.

Pregnant women’s partner/support person are viewed as part of the pregnant woman’s bubble and where possible we should be facilitating this arrangement across all clinical settings, with staff supported with the correct PPE and screening of patients for symptoms prior to attending appointments. In most cases it is expected that general practice will be able to accommodate this request however if you are not able to offer appointments to women that include partners/support people we are asking you to report this back to the maternity mailbox by exception.

The East London local maternity system team have provided a short form, attached, to be completed where your practice is unable to accommodate the above request.  We would appreciate it if you could return the form to elhcp.maternity@nhs.net by noon Wednesday 28th April 2021.

Thank you for your ongoing support and assistance in providing this information
