Please find below an update on the NEL Shared Care Record (the East London Patient Record) and on the postponement of the change to the current medical examiner system.
BHRUT joins the ELPR
The East London Patient Record (ELPR otherwise known as the Cerner Portal, Cerner HIE or the London Care Record) is now live with data sharing from BHRUT (Kings and Queens Hospitals) and Barts Health Community Services.
Data shared from BHRUT covers:
- IP Admissions, Discharges
- ED Attendances
- OP Attendances
- Future OP Appointments
- Problems & Diagnoses
This can be accessed in the portal from your Emis or SystmOne as per all the other data sources. If you are unaware where this portal is OR if you do not believe you have the portal activated then please contact bill.jenks@nhs.net for some support.
Below you will find the list of organisations that can view the portal and which ones are also sharing back for others to view. This is a work in progress but we are now well on our way to connecting most of the major local health and care organisations and there are now over 400,000 accesses to the portal each month.

Many thanks to the teams at Barts Health, BHRUT and Homerton who are driving this shared care record on to such successful outcomes.
Changes to the current medical examiner system have been postponed
NHS England have decided that resources and systems are not in place to make the medical examiner system a statutory requirement from 1st April. A ministerial statement will hopefully be forthcoming. Until your practice is contacted by the Bart's Health-hosted medical examiner service please continue to process MCCDs/refer to the coroner as you have done previously. For further information regarding the forthcoming medical examiner system (and the referrals process and documents) please see Medical Examiner Referral – North East London (icb.nhs.uk)
