This is our fortnightly community phlebotomy pilot update. Our previous updates are available on our website.
As with any pilot, we continue to listen to our communities, measure feedback received and flex the service accordingly. Feedback to date remains positive overall and we will continue to do our best to ensure people are able to continue to access their local service in a timely manner at a location that suits them.
Following the suspension of non-urgent blood tests between 26 August and 17 September 21, testing activity in primary and community care has now resumed for non-critical phlebotomy referrals.

Engagement
- We have developed a patient survey which can be completed online via a text and email link once the appointment has finished.
- This link can also be shared via email for those who do not have a mobile phone.
- We continue to share updates and the link to our dedicated email address in our local and NEL wide stakeholder updates to invite local feedback.
- We are working closely with Healthwatch to reach out to those who do not have web/mobile phone access for their feedback to ensure that feedback is representative.
- A frequently updated list of all sites and provision is available on the CCG website, as well as on the NELFT website and is linked to from the BHRUT website.
- The above mentioned list of sites is also shared regularly with practice colleagues for patients.
- We are currently looking at how we can create dedicated phlebotomy sessions to accommodate people with learning disabilities.
- We are also looking at home visiting for those with severe learning disabilities.
Patient survey results to date
We are now able to report on our patient survey data. 7993 patients responded to the survey and we are pleased to report that 93% fed back a good or very good experience. A sample of the questions and responses are broken down below:
- How easy did you find it, to get an appointment?
3,447 said “very easy”, or “easy”
71 said “difficult” - Overall, how was your experience of our service?
3327 said “good” or “very good”
191 said “very poor”, “poor” or “ok” - Were you happy with the distance you travelled to your appointment?
3343 said “yes “
107 said “no”, 66 stated “not applicable”
We will continue to share this survey via text message and email with all those who attend an appointment.
We will continue to learn from these responses in order to shape the service into one that meets the needs of the local community.
